  • The error survives a power reset and verified-tight, undamaged wiring — this is a board-level diagnosis that needs a service manual and the right spare.
  • You smell burnt electronics at either unit, or the outdoor unit's fuse keeps blowing. Stop using the system.
  • The unit is new or recently reinstalled — wiring errors (swapped conductors, wrong terminal) are the most likely cause and the installer should correct them under warranty.
  • Board replacement is a real cost decision: get the exact part number off the failed board before pricing it, and remember that a 5-minute tech visit to confirm 'board dead' can save you from buying the wrong one.
